A Chance Meeting

I met a man today

I met a man who I saw earlier today

wondered about him and how he

looked

this way and that at the

people walking by

was it coincidence that I saw him again

and talked to him

light and shadow

shade and sun

the turning and twisting of time and fate

was something greater than

my own imagination

pushing us together?

the man

he was in a wheelchair

flat iron to the ground

and spinning tales

I wondered why I had met him

then I saw him again

moving through the back and forth

In the window

far away

back and forth

and I wondered

a hello

can I help you

how to say

I saw you earlier today

watched as you talked, laughed

and loved

Was it fate that brought us together?

back and forth

through the window

you did go

and then some how

serendipity is more than a word

we met

not in a weird way

but natural

like the stone pavements

rolling concrete

and yellow lines

I walked

you talked

back and forth

together and all at

once

I don’t even remember your name

wondering about bright

stars and different

things

how it is to talk and share

about yourself

the slight monologue I now

have memorized

pin cushions have fallen away

and I still can’t seem to shake

that we were meant to meet

time and space

the crystal clear way you asked

and I was grateful for your help

leading and bringing me to

the door

where I needed to go

then we were separated

gone

and I wondered at the magical way

it happened; the tying together

like fairy dust

had given you wings and

there you were again

Should I say thank you?

I never left my seat

and my heart didn’t stir

then you were gone

like the free winged bird

out of sight

out of mind

perishing to the eternal

depths of my fantasy and

imagination
